If you know me, you’ll know I love music. Whether it’s a live gig, a hidden gem on Spotify or the crackle of old-school vinyl, music has always been my thing.
A few weeks ago, I was at Duke Dumont in Manchester — one of the oldest old-timers on the dance floor. But as I looked around, I was reminded of the power of music to connect us, no matter who (or how old) we are.
It struck me there’s a lot in common between great music and great communication — rhythm, connection, emotion, timing. When it works, it moves people. When it doesn’t, it jars.
And let’s be honest, internal comms has been stuck on repeat for a while.
Same conversations. Same frustrations. Same “seat at the table” déjà vu.
So Emma and I decided it was time to change the record.
Introducing The Stuck Record
The Stuck Record is our new podcast — a place for people who care about culture, communication and employee experience, and want to find a new groove for our profession.
It’s the perfect accompaniment to our upcoming book, People-First Internal Communication — like the album that goes with the book. Each episode (or track) explores a key theme from the book, mixing insights, stories and plenty of B-side banter along the way.
Here’s what’s on the setlist so far:
🎵 Track 1 – IC has lost its groove (and how to get it back)
The people-first roots of internal comms, how we lost our way and why now’s our reboot moment.
🎵 Track 2 – From Expert to People-First (and why that’s so scary)
An honest, funny and sometimes uncomfortable conversation about expertise, ego and what it really takes to evolve our role.
🎵 Track 3 – The New IC Superpowers
How the skills we’ve relied on are no longer enough — and how to thrive in the AI age.
🎧 Listen on Spotify →
Each episode blends insight, storytelling and a touch of humour. It’s for anyone ready to stop spinning the same old tune and start creating something new.
And yes, we’ve even made a Spotify playlist to go with each episode — the songs that inspired our thinking (and occasionally our tangents). Think less “corporate soundtrack”, more “drive-time for comms nerds.
”So grab your headphones, turn up the volume, and join us in changing the record on internal comms — one track at a time.
🎧 Listen to The Stuck Record Playlist...
💬 We’d love your input for the B-side!
Have a track you think belongs on our playlist, a crazy comms story to share, or a topic you’d love us to riff on in a future episode? Drop it in the comments below or message us, and we’ll give you a shout-out if it makes the cut.
