Internal communication (IC) often feels like it’s playing on repeat. Leaders call for influence. Employees ask for clarity. Teams wrestle with channels, campaigns, and technology. Yet the same frustrations surface again and again.

At the EX Space, we believe IC deserves better. That’s why we’ve launched The Stuck Record, a brand new podcast exploring how we can reset the groove and reimagine the future of internal communication.

From the page to the podcast

The Stuck Record builds on our new Kogan Page book - People First Internal Communication. In it, we challenge the idea that IC is just about messages, campaigns, and delivery. Instead, we argue for a people-first mindset: one that sees communication as the design of experiences that shape culture, belonging, and performance.

But a book is one-way — a podcast allows for dialogue. It gives us the chance to debate, test, and explore these ideas in real time. More importantly, it invites the profession to join the conversation.

Why The Stuck Record?

Because too often, the same conversations dominate. How do we get a seat at the table? How do we drive engagement? How do we balance strategy with delivery? How do we demonstrate our value? They’re valid questions, but the fact they haven’t shifted in decades tells us something is broken.

The Stuck Record is about calling that out. With over 60 years’ combined experience, two very different brains (structured and divergent), and a big dose of honesty and humour, we’re bringing both critique and creativity to the conversation. This is not about “gurus” handing down best practice — it’s about truth-telling, provocation, and helping IC leaders find the courage to change the track.

What you’ll hear

Each episode is built like a mixtape: short stories, big ideas, practical takeaways, and the occasional playful detour. Rather than staying stuck in the groove, we’ll explore themes that matter for the future of IC, including:

  • People-first leadership: moving beyond “expert control” towards co-creation with employees.
  • Future capability: the superpowers IC professionals will need in the decade ahead.
  • Design thinking: why campaigns are giving way to experiences.
  • AI and human advantage: how technology can free us to focus on empathy, trust, and meaning.
  • Manifestos for change: what it will take to stop repeating ourselves.

This isn’t nostalgia — even if the branding is deliciously retro! It’s about using fresh metaphors and perspectives to challenge a profession that risks irrelevance if it doesn’t evolve, and evolve quickly.

Why it matters now

Employee expectations are shifting. They want communication that feels authentic, participatory, and human. At the same time, organisations expect IC to shape culture, enable strategy, and navigate complexity. And on top of that, AI is reshaping what parts of the role can (and should) be automated.

The need for new capabilities and new thinking has never been greater. The Stuck Record is our way of equipping IC professionals with the inspiration, tools, and courage to break free of the loop — and design something better.

If you’re ready to move past the same old conversations and explore what’s next for IC, The Stuck Record is for you.
